Sydney Airport, in collaboration with American Airlines, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and a global team of aviation and security partners, has successfully delivered a world-first International-to-Domestic/International Remote Baggage Screening pilot at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

Project Advisory Group supported Sydney Airport on this landmark pilot, which enables eligible passengers arriving in Los Angeles from Sydney to bypass the need to collect and recheck their baggage when connecting to onward flights.

This breakthrough simplifies one of the most frustrating pain points for international travellers — the baggage recheck — offering a smoother, faster, and less stressful transit experience. For passengers, it means less time in queues, fewer handlings of baggage, and a more seamless connection from arrival to their final destination.

The pilot was made possible through the collaboration and commitment of an exceptional group of partners: CBP, TSA, the Department of Homeland Security, American Airlines, Smiths Detection, Brock Solutions, BagCheck, and Los Angeles Airport. It’s a true testament to what can be achieved when airports, regulators, technology providers, and airlines come together to innovate.

Project Advisory Group is proud to have supported this initiative and to have played a role in bringing together the many moving parts required to make it a success. We're all proud to be part of transformations that genuinely make a difference — for passengers, for operations, and the future of international travel.
